Elgol, Skye
This view from Elgol was taken on the 6th of December 2014. My Brother Frank and I had planned a day trip to Glen Coe, but the weather there was awful. Foolishly and forgetting just how much further it was, I suggested we go to Skye. We got to Elgol late in the afternoon, with the light already fading. We played about with a few compositions. Although not the best composition, this was one of the few that looked okay.

Marsco and Sgùrr nan Gillean - Skye I was heading home from the Hebrides when I saw this. The view was not new to me. I have other images of that mountain. Here though the clouds and the light stopped me in my tracks. Expose for the highlights and the result will not be a burned out sky. Doing so though can make the landscape very dark. This is a compromise and it worked. Access - From the road side. Parked just off the road and walked across it to get the shot. Nikon D750. Location:- 57°18'48.1"N 6°11'52.6"W 57.313361, -6.197955

Fairy pools - Skye Actually it is a small water fall up stream from the Fairy Pools. The pools are nice but getting a good picture is not easy. Here though, I can place the tripod in the water, low down to get the stream flowing past and keep the peak of the mountain in the frame. Access- This is a 1km, 3400ft walk in from the carpark entrance. The path is good to rough. There are large stepping stones to cross a stream. I saw one couple fail to get to the Fairy pools as one of the pair could not manage the stepping stones. Actually more like hopping, jumping stones, than stepping. I was having a good day and felt capable of making this walk. I had to be careful not to over do it or the rest of my trip could have been ruined. Determination can get you places. Nikon D750. Staffin - Skye This was taken shortly before arriving at a camp site and pitching a tent for the night. I was heading to Uist the following day. As you can see the weather was not being kind. This is a Panorama, a stitch of 9 images to create one very detailed image. Taken from the road side. Nikon D750. Location:- 57°37'49.2"N 6°13'50.0"W 57.630319, -6.230556

Staffin - Skye. I have always like this view. It was the one I saw as I drove down the hill ready to turn left at the next track. That led to the house my Brother and his family lived in many years ago. This was taken from a track just off the main road. This is a Panorama, a stitch of 6 images to create one very detailed image. Nikon D750. Location:- 57°37'15.8"N 6°11'53.4"W 57.621044, -6.198159

Marsco, Skye from the Allt Dubh View Point on the A87. There is a parking area beside the road here. Just enough for a few cars. Most people will take the view from there and probably havet he road in their image. I simply took a few steps closer the the Allt Dubh river and got my shot free of road and cars. This was taken at 23mm f3.5 1/1600s. Camera Nikon D750. Location:- 57°18'21.3"N 6°11'15.4"W 57.305902, -6.187620
Loch Ainort and the Red Cuillins - Skye This was March as I arrived on Skye. The weather had been getting progressively worse as I got closer to skye. I was still not in the worst of it, but it was windy. Access - Easy, it's from a large waste area used for parking for the views. Nikon D750. Location:- 57°17'03.9"N 6°01'51.1"W 57.284408, -6.030866
Sligachan Old Bridge - Skye. The video linked here shows this image and then switches to video. The wind was howling and the rain was Horizontal. Once this was the only bridge, but now a more modern road bridge sits to the left just out of shot. You can walk or cycle over this, but you cannot drive. Access - Easy. Car park for the hotel is just behind me and I have walked just a few paces from the car. 57°17'23.3"N 6°10'25.5"W 57.289796, -6.173740
Old man of Storr - Skye Every photographer on YouTube that comes to Skye will hike up to the Old man of Storr view point in the dark to get sun rise. Me; gets up late; drives to the base; puts on the big lens; gets a shot. No I am not keen to hike up and I knew it was going to be low cloud so no decent sun rise. This was taken with my 150-600mm lens and I only actually needed it at 150mm. In the video you can see the Storr is quite far away. To use more power on the lens I could have cropped right in, but that would have taken away the setting and the weather. The atmosphere would have been lost and I think it looks good with it. Access - taken from a parking area alongside the road. It is for people about to walk up. Google street view shows a forest here but it had just been felled when I got there. Nikon D750. 150mm f8 Location:- 57°30'01.5"N 6°09'22.5"W 57.500427, -6.156255

Uig, Skye Just off the road looking down on the jetty that a few months later I would use to travel to Uist. This is a Panorama, a stitch of 6 images to create one very detailed image. Access - Parked at the side of the road and walked a few passes to get a high point looking down on to the bay. Camera Nikon D750. Location:- 57°35'36.5"N 6°22'14.0"W 57.593473, -6.370564
